News & Announcements from NZ's
Sustainable Living Programme

the household sustainability action resources website

The Sustainable Living Programme (SLP) is managed by Christchurch City Council on behalf of the Sustainable Living Education Trust, comprising 26 partner councils around New Zealand.  It also has support in 2008-9 from The Ministry for the Environment. SLP provides seminars and evening class series on topics such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, water use, organic gardening, building and renovation, travel, and shopping wisely. Our groups meet to learn practical things together, then take action in their homes. We make a difference.

Our community education classes on Sustainable Living, offered each Term, feature good discussion, hands-on learning methods, and use well-researched notes - including home activities and more detailed material than is published on our websites. Action leaders or study tutors are helped by a 'facilitators guide' and reference information (distributed to them on CD), plus telephone and email support from the national coordinator. If this adult-teaching and group leadership role appeals to you, and you already have some relevant group leading or tutoring experience, please make contact via an email message on the registration page or phone Rhys Taylor on 03 960 2656. We are recruiting tutors to meet demand in new areas.

A summary home page for this sustainability resources website is available here (bookmark it, for your future visits). Additional information for journalists and broadcasters is located here.

If you prefer a more interactive website to this traditional web-style, and have broadband access, additional pages including a quiz with downloads on sustainability issues are on-line now at www.sustainableliving.org.nz. You can register interest in courses in your region and request email notification of our newsletters, from that site.

There's a New Zealand magazine published that is likely to interest users of this website, in which we have also advertised: Good magazine.

Thankyou for visiting.
