the NZ household action website - updated June 2008
The Sustainable Living Programme is managed by Marlborough District Council on behalf of 24 partner councils around New Zealand and also has support in 2008 from The Ministry for the Environment. SLP includes seminars and evening class series on topics such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, water use, gardening, building and renovation, travel, and shopping wisely. Our groups learn practical things together in order to take action at home.

A research forum CHANGING HABITS FOR SUSTAINABILITY was held in Christchurch and video-linked with Auckland, on World Environment Day 5th June 2008, in association with colleagues from Landcare Research and Massey University. Practitioners and researchers on 'behaviour change for sustainability' shared experience and the event was filmed - a DVD recording will be produced. Enquiries to Rhys Taylor at 03 960 2656.
The Programme has been officially recognised as a New Zealand contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014. National leadership on this is being coordinated by SANZ.
Our community education classes on Sustainable Living, offered next from July 2008 and each Term, feature good discussion, hands-on learning methods, and use well-researched notes - including home activities and more detailed material than is published on our websites. Action leaders or study tutors are helped by a 'facilitators guide' and reference information (distributed to them on CD), plus telephone and email support from the national coordinator. If this adult-teaching and group leadership role appeals to you, and you already have some relevant group leading or tutoring experience, please make contact via an email message on the registration page or phone Rhys Taylor on 03 960 2656. We are recruiting tutors to meet demand in new areas.
